Pre-Delivery Resources:

Postpartum - Mother-Baby Unit

The Mother-baby unit provides a quiet environment where you, your baby and your family can continue with the bonding process. Through couplet care, you and your baby will be cared for by the same nurses in your own private room. Having your baby at your bedside allows you to respond promptly to your baby’s needs and assists with successful breastfeeding. We practice couplet care unless your baby needs specialized attention in our NICU.

Your mother-baby experience includes a beautiful suite that includes a place for your birth partner to stay overnight, personalized one-on-one education with a certified nurse for the care of you and your baby, cable TV and DVD players in every room, high-speed Internet access to communicate with your friends and family, and one-on-one breastfeeding support from our Certified Lactation Consultants.

Breastfeeding Support

Breastfeeding can be one of the most beneficial things you do for your baby, but often is a challenging process. In addition to providing a special time of bonding, breastfeeding reduces your child’s risk of infections while helping your body recover from the stress of pregnancy, labor and delivery. We have our own certified lactation consultants that provide guidance by educating parents in a one-on-one setting throughout your hospital stay. If you still have some questions once you get home, need outpatient consultation visits or need to rent a breast pump, please contact our Lactaction Consultants at (281) 644-7345.

Antepartum Care

You can rest assured that Memorial Hermann Katy is prepared for both routine and high-risk pregnancies. Our Antepartum unit is available for inpatient care for women who experience complications with their pregnancy and require 24-hour management and monitoring to safely delivery your baby. This unit is equipped to provide a full complement of tests during pregnancy to monitor you and your baby’s heart rate and other signs of fetal well-being. Should you and your baby need this specialized care during your pregnancy, we offer a wide range of prenatal diagnostic testing and high-risk pregnancy services, through our partnership with McGovern Medical School at UTHealth and the High Risk Pregnancy / Maternal Fetal Medicine Clinic.

Postpartum Care

To help you be better prepared for what to expect, Memorial Hermann Katy offers you a free booklet via download of Your Guide to Postpartum and Newborn Care available anytime throughout your pregnancy or after. This booklet will help you understand how to care for yourself and your baby after birth. The more knowledge you have, the more likely you will approach your personal journey with confidence and a positive perspective. Topics include:
