The Only Comprehensive Burn Treatment Center in Houston

The John S. Dunn Burn Center is the only comprehensive burn center in Houston and is verified by the American Burn Association. The affiliated board-certified physicians at the burn center care for all types of burn injuries, inhalation injuries and various skin disorders including Stevens-Johnson syndrome and toxic epidermal necrolysis.

The burn team provides the entire continuum of care, including critical care, acute inpatient care, burn reconstruction and scar management and rehabilitation. The Center is a collaborative effort between Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center and McGovern Medical School at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) division of Acute Care Surgery.

Scope of Service

The Burn Center cares for all aspects of every type of burn injury including flame, inhalation, electrical, chemical and various skin disorders. Each type of burn brings its individual challenges. Our team trains to provide multidisciplinary care for the adult burn population and patients requiring complicated wound management.

Care Guidelines

Memorial Hermann-TMC provides comprehensive multidisciplinary care for the adult burn patient population and patients requiring complicated wound management. Necessity and timeliness of care is evaluated according to American Burn Association guidelines and evidence-based practice in collaboration with burn centers around the country. The goal is to restore patients and their families to a functional level of independent care through education and assistance by meeting their needs in a healing environment.

Facilities

The John S. Dunn Burn Center is located on the 5th floor of the Sarofim Pavilion at the Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center. It contains 14 beds for acute inpatient care. There are facilities for PT/OT and hydrotherapy for wound care. The outpatient clinic is located across the street on the ground floor of the Jones Pavilion.

Referrals

Specialized burn care by the burn team is immediately available 24 hours a day. All requests for transfers are handled through the Transfer Center at (713) 704-2500. Referrals for outpatient care are handled through the Burn Center outpatient clinic at (713) 704-6500.
