Innovations in orthopedics include a new, minimally invasive knee replacement surgery. The technique reduces the size of the incision and does not cut or damage tendons. Because less tissue is cut, recovery time is often reduced.

Innovations in hand and microvascular replantation allow surgeons to successfully reattach fingers, hands and limbs. The same techniques can be applied to diseases such as carpal tunnel syndrome. Memorial Hermann is also one of only a handful of hospitals in Texas to offer ankle replacement surgery.

Recent progress in anterior hip replacement surgery allows surgeons to enter from the front of the leg, reducing pain, recovery time and rehabilitation treatment. Developments in anterior and posterior options for major reconstructive spinal surgery, sometimes referred to as 360° surgery, also reduce discomfort and recovery periods.

A comprehensive sports medicine service is designed to return amateur and professional athletes, as well as the recreational enthusiast, to the playing field. Patients have access to 24-hour emergency services and a broad range of diagnostic testing, including laboratory, imaging and fitness testing.

Rehabilitation programs to treat both adults and children are staffed by licensed physical therapists, physical therapist assistants, certified athletic trainers and exercise physiologists.
