Memorial Hermann is one of the world’s largest providers of cardiovascular care, annually treating more than 200,000 heart patients. Our team of experienced affiliated cardiologists, cardiothoracic and vascular surgeons, clinicians, researchers and educators are developing and perfecting innovative techniques that continue to put Memorial Hermann at the forefront of advancing heart health in Houston.

Our expertise extends from lifesaving heart attack treatment to heart rhythm disorders, treatment for advanced heart failure and complex surgeries, including the most complex vascular and heart surgeries. That’s just the beginning. New minimally invasive procedures allow for life-saving interventions for people too ill for traditional open heart surgical procedures, These innovations continue to put Memorial Hermann at the forefront of advancing heart health in Houston. And when patients have a better chance of recovering faster, they can return to the things they enjoy sooner.

More than half of Houston’s heart specialists are on active staff at Memorial Hermann, giving patients access to a complete range of cardiac care from interventional cardiology and electrophysiology to complex robotically assisted procedures. With the addition of the Center for Advanced Heart Failure at Larry D. Johnson Heart & Vascular Institute at Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center located at the Larry D. Johnson Heart & Vascular Institute at Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center, patients now have access to innovative medical, minimally invasive and surgical options for heart failure including heart transplant.

Heart & Vascular

Heart and vascular specialists at Memorial Hermann combine research, education and clinical practice to bring the most advanced diagnostic and treatment options to tens of thousands of patients each year. The result is better care and improved outcomes.

Diagnostics

Interpreting test results is critical to the successful diagnosis and management of any disorder. Our program offers an array of inpatient and outpatient diagnostic options, including electrocardiography (EKG) and Holter monitor service, PET scan, and advanced CT and MRI imaging. Experienced staff is on hand to effectively read and analyze results.

Cardiology

Often the entry point to receiving heart care, our cardiology service is committed to delivering a quality experience for all patients, in the hospital and on an outpatient basis. Our program addresses a spectrum of conditions from common heart issues such as angina and heart disease to very specialized concerns like arrhythmias and aortic aneurysms. Cardiologists combine the latest technologies and therapies with attention to patient concerns and limitations, providing a personalized plan of treatment. In addition to options such as lifestyle modification, medications and procedures, cardiologists consult with cardiovascular surgeons on all options available to patients.

Cardiovascular Surgery

Each year, experienced cardiovascular surgeons consult with thousands of heart patients. Working with the latest surgical techniques, equipment and devices, they are able to offer a number of innovative treatments for heart bypass surgery, coronary artery disease, arrhythmias and heart failure.

Surgical innovations at Memorial Hermann are leading to improved outcomes for specific heart conditions. One specialized procedure works to reduce complications from surgery for extensive thoracic and thoraco-abdominal aortic aneurysms. By fine-tuning the surgical process, surgical techniques work to improve organ preservation in patients. This translates to fewer occurrences of paralysis, reduction of ischemic injury to the brain and a reduced incidence of embolism. Another procedure, off-pump bypass, being used during heart bypass surgery, results in reduced complications and quicker recovery times for patients.

Other innovative techniques employed by the physicians associated with our program include aortic valve replacement with bovine, or cow, tissue, minimally invasive surgical techniques and irrigated radiofrequency ablation - which eliminates the need to make incisions in the heart.
