In a safety report released nationally today by The Leapfrog Group, a Washington D.C-based organization aiming to improve health care quality and safety for consumers and purchasers, Memorial Hermann Health System earned numerous ‘A’ safety grades in this elite national ratings program. The program recognizes Memorial Hermann’s strong commitment to patient safety by protecting patients from harm and meeting the highest safety standards in the U.S.

“This recognition is a great acknowledgement of the commitment to patient safety and quality demonstrated every day across our system by our employees and physicians,” said Dr. David Callender, President and CEO of Memorial Hermann.  “It also validates the trust families place in us to safely, and compassionately, care for their loved ones.”

Eight of the health system’s acute care hospitals were included in an exclusive group of about 1200 nationwide to receive an ‘A’ score based on their performance in preventing medical errors, infections and other harms among patients in their care.  Those hospitals include:

The Hospital Safety Score is the gold standard rating for patient safety, compiled under the guidance of the nation’s leading patient safety experts and administered byThe Leapfrog Group, a national, independent nonprofit. The Hospital Safety Grade uses 28 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign grades to approximately 2,600 U.S. hospitals twice per year. It is peer reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public.
