Led by John Teichgraeber, MD, Director of the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at UTHealth’s McGovern Medical School, and Matthew Greives, MD, Assistant Professor of Pediatric Plastic Surgery at McGovern Medical School, the Pediatric Plastic and Craniofacial Reconstructive Cleft Program provides care and reconstructive surgery for children with birth defects, developmental abnormalities, trauma, infection, tumors and disease.
“The Pediatric Plastic and Craniofacial Reconstructive Cleft Program team has cared for children with cleft palates since the 1990s,” said Susie Distefano, Vice President and CEO of Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital. “Cleft lip and cleft palate are two of the most common birth anomalies in the United States and occur in one out of every 700 infants born each year.”
In addition to cleft lip and palate, Drs. Teichgraeber and Greives work hand in hand with UTHealth pediatric neurosurgeons, affiliated with both Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital and the Memorial Hermann Mischer Neuroscience Institute at the Texas Medical Center, to treat children with craniofacial conditions, such as craniosynostosis, craniofacial syndromes and tumors.
