HOUSTON (October 18, 2016)

Memorial City Pelvic Floor ribbon cuttingThe National Institutes of Health reports more than one-third of U.S women have a pelvic floor disorder, and that number goes up as a woman ages. Unfortunately, the American Urogyneocologic Society reports many women are reluctant to talk with their physician about conditions they consider to be very private. That’s why Memorial Hermann Memorial City Medical Center recently opened the Pelvic Floor Health Center, offering a comprehensive program to treat pelvic floor disorders in a space that aims to be comfortable for both men and women.

Pelvic floor disorders range from urinary incontinence to uterine prolapse. Symptoms include a sudden urge to urinate, pain in the genital area, a bulging pressure in your pelvic area, and abnormal cramping during menstruation. The Center is supported by board-certified specialists in OB/GYN, urology, gastroenterology, reconstructive surgery as well as a board-certified women’s health physical therapist and dedicated nurse navigator who work together to give patients an individualized plan to treat their specific issues.

“Many people aren’t aware of the full range of treatment options available for pelvic floor disorders,” explains Apruva Pancholy, M.D., a urogynecologist affiliated with Memorial Hermann Memorial City Medical Center and an assistant professor at the McGovern Medical School at UTHealth. “At the Pelvic Floor Health Center, we understand the causes of pelvic floor disorders are varied and complex. That’s why our team offers a tailored treatment plan for patients in one convenient location.”

The 4,200 square-foot center features private therapy rooms, a noninvasive nerve stimulation room, and dedicated male and female dressing areas, including warm robes for those needing a procedure.

“Memorial Hermann Memorial City is the first in west Houston to offer a multidisciplinary treatment center for pelvic floor disorders. We believe the spa-like environment of the Center, along with the expertise and sensitivity of our medical professionals, facilitates a calming experience for our patients,” says Paul O’Sullivan, Sr. Vice President and CEO of Memorial Hermann Memorial City Medical Center.
