Cinco Ranch running back K.C. Nlemchi has been named the Greater Houston High School Football Player of the Year for the 2009 season by Memorial Hermann Sports Medicine & Rehabilitation and KPRC Local 2. Cinco Ranch High School also received a $2,500 check from Memorial Hermann Sports Medicine & Rehabilitation in honor of Nlemchi winning the 2009 award.

"It's truly an honor and I am blessed with some great teammates," said Nlemchi. "I owe a lot to my teammates, especially my offensive line for helping me this season. I really am taken back and appreciate this great honor."

The Cougars finished a school best 13-2 in 2009, losing in the State semi-final to Austin Westlake. Nlemchi led the way rushing for 2,388 yards and 33 touchdowns as a junior.

"I am really proud of K.C. and what he accomplished," Cougars Head Coach Don Clayton said. "As good of a football player as he is, K.C. is an even better person off the field. We're really happy for him."

Athlete of the Week is a program sponsored by Memorial Hermann Sports Medicine & Rehabilitation and KPRC Local 2. An outstanding athlete is chosen on a weekly basis from a local high school. At the end of the fall season, the athlete with the best all-around season, as judged by the sports team at KPRC Local 2, is named Athlete of the Year.
