Because of tremendous growth in its surgical services, Memorial Hermann Northeast Hospital recently announced the addition of 2,600 square feet of new surgical space.
“For the last 30 years, Memorial Hermann Northeast Hospital has been committed to meeting the health care needs of families living in our community,” said Heath Rushing, chief operating officer at Memorial Hermann Northeast. “As these needs have evolved over time, we have and will continue to grow and change – a broader range of medical services, advanced technologies, and breakthrough treatments.”
In the last two years, the hospital’s spine program grew by more than 20 percent, while the vascular program increased by 15 percent and the general surgery program expanded by 17 percent just last year.
In addition, Memorial Hermann Northeast has added new physicians and surgeons to its staff, broadened its relationship with The University of Texas Medical School at Houston, and will be partnering with UTHealth Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery, UTHealth Orthopedics, and UTHealth Oncology. Memorial Hermann Northeast currently operates seven surgical suites and two modern catheterization labs. The $4.8 million expansion, scheduled to begin this summer, will include a new state-of-the-art hybrid endovascular surgery suite and a “shell” room that will be available as a surgical suite to accommodate future growth.
Designed specifically for vascular and cardiovascular patients, surgeons will have the ability to perform open surgeries and endovascular procedures with advanced imaging without moving patients from one operating theater to another. A hybrid surgery suite essentially combines the capabilities of a cardiac catheterization lab and operating room into a single suite.
“The new hybrid endovascular suite will provide our specially trained physicians the ability to perform endovascular procedures, minimally invasive or traditional open surgery – whichever is needed – simultaneously in the same room,” said Rushing. “It is designed with versatility in mind and furnished with equipment that can accommodate a wide range of procedures with ease, allowing for more efficient and effective patient care.”
Memorial Hermann Northeast is recognized by the American Heart Association and the American Stroke Association as a Gold Plus Stroke Facility, designated as a Primary Stroke Center by the Southwest Texas Regional Advisory Council, and recognized as a Top Performer on key quality measures by The Joint Commission.
