Pectus in Children

Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital operates one of the few multidisciplinary programs in the country dedicated to helping children with chest wall or pectus deformities. At the Pediatric Pectus Program, a multidisciplinary team of affiliated specialists provides patient-centered care for children with pectus excavatum and pectus carinatum. They see patients together in one location and work closely to provide optimum care, monitoring their progress to ensure that children have surgery if and when needed – usually between the ages of 10 and 14. Because both forms of pectus may be associated with other disorders or syndromes that cause similar symptoms, all children undergo extensive examinations, including physiological testing and counseling as part of the program.

Types of Pectus
